Hi All,

I use a cane now and have a baby neice who is 6 mths old I was wondering the best way to travel with her and still be able to use my cane. If I pull her in the stroller I can't use my cane then again I can't really carry her with my right arm because its not very strong to support her. and she is getting to heavy to carry in her car seat.

Does anyone have any ideas on how I can get around with her when I watch her?

You can pull a stroller backwards with your left hand while using a cane in your right hand. That's how we do it with our son.

Or, she's probably still small enough to ride in a baby carrier/harness on your back. Get one of those diagonal ones, the top strap of which, would go across your body like a car seatbelt and the bottom strap should go just loose enough so it revolves, round your waist. All the weight is then on your hips and shoulders and if the carrier's on your back, your right arm is free so you can use your cane. There're also backpack carriers, either with a frame or without a frame, wrap around carriers, front carriers where baby's strapped to your chest and many many more, too many to go in to in this post really, but there is such a wide range out there to choose from and none of them should weigh heavy on your arms or back.

I would also like to know any info about this topic but I use a dog. My cousin has a 2 year old and another baby on the way so this would be helpfull for watching them

When my daughter was about 18 months old, I quit using the backpack, but taught her to ride piggyback on my shoulders. I say taught, because you've got to make sure they lean forward so as not to hit an overhead branch you missed.
I carried her that way for years; you may take criticism from some for not letting them walk next to you, but in my view those times are about transportation and not exercise.
Another option for the two-year-old is a sturdily-built wagon, as they can lay down if tired.
The front carrier idea is awesome and as my daughter was born in Octover, during her first few months I would just put her vertically inside my ski jacket when I went out. It's padded and warm in there, she slept a lot, and it was reasonably safe. You do need to use an arm to support them like that, but mostly I did it because it was so cold.
There's all kinds of creative ways to do stuff like this ...

The ergo baby carrier. Get one. Seriously, they are the best. You can carry the baby on your front, back or hip from birth to four or five years old. It is extremely comfortable and is great for very skinny to very heavy people of all ages. Also, find a babywearing mom's group in your area who can show you different types of carriers and help you learn to use them as well.

prego makes a baby stsroller that has a handle which you can either push or pull the baby behind. if you can't find it, I had a twin stroller, my kids were 15 months apart, that someone screwed a lawn mower handle on and i could pull it behind me.
